Mill Street Elementary School Health Services

District 203 Health Service Philosophy

School Health Services recognize that an individual’s education and growth is related to their physical, mental and emotional well-being.

District 203 believes:

    • Each individual is valuable and the development of his/her potential is the first responsibility of education.
    • The acquisition of skills necessary to maintain a healthy state is a cardinal component of education.
    • An effective school health program requires the cooperative involvement of family, school, community agencies, and medical disciplines.
    • School Health Services provides a unique contribution to the development of concepts of wellness in students, families, and community.
    • A maturing student should be able to face social situations and life problems with increasing judgment as to his/ her role and acceptance of it. Recognition of health issues should be fostered as a civic responsibility.

Attendance:

At the elementary level, absence reporting and attendance monitoring are overseen by the Health Office. If your child will be absent, late, or leaving school early, please notify the Health Office at 630-420-6353. See Reporting an Absence for details.

Medications:

  • All medicine must be given through the Health Office. It is not safe for your child or for other children to have medicine sent in lunch boxes or pockets.
  • The school can not give medicine, prescription or over-the-counter, unless we have a signed medication permission form from your child's doctor. Medication Permission form
  • Medicine should be brought to school in the original prescription bottle (pharmacies will give an extra one when asked), or in the container in which it was purchased.
  • It should be clearly marked with the student's name and dosage to be given.
